Barry County Youth Camp bus schedule announced

The Barry County Youth Camp, which will be held May 28 through May 31 at Camp Smokey in Roaring River State Park, will offer bus services in Cassville, Monett and Purdy.

A bus will pick up camp participants at the Cassville United Methodist Church parking lot, which is located at Sixth and Gravel, at 9:30 a.m. on May 28. Campers should be at the stop by 9:15 a.m. The bus will return between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. on May 31.

Camp participants from the Purdy area should meet at the Ramey Supermarket parking lot at 9 a.m. on May 28. The bus will leave at 9:10 a.m. Campers will return by 11 a.m. on May 31.

The Monett bus stop will be at the Monett First Baptist Church parking lot, located at 412 Fourth St. Campers should assemble at the stop by 8:30 a.m. on May 28. The bus will leave at 8:45 a.m. Campers will return to Monett by 11:15 a.m. on May 31.

Parents should be at the bus stops to pick up their children on May 31. An adult will not be present to wait with children who are dropped off at stops.

Children who live in the Eagle Rock, Shell Knob and Golden areas should report directly to Camp Smokey in Roaring River State Park by 10 a.m. on May 28.

The camp theme for the 48th annual event is "Have a Ball at BCYC 2013." The climax of the camp each year is carnival night where children enjoy prizes, food and booths offering fun games.
The staff this year consists of: Shirley Bass and Jane James, co-chairmen; Sarah Davis and Sarah Pfitzner, co-directors; Sandy Pfitzner, nurse; Kami Willis, craft director; and Greg Davis, Melvin Casper and Bob Mareth, cooks.

Each year the camp is in need of towels, wash cloths, sheets, blankets and clothing for the campers, as well as the time of anyone who can volunteer their assistance before, during and after the camp. Those wishing to make donations or volunteer can call 235-3929.
