Cassville Wildcat Cody Frana won a silver medal in the 300 hurdles at the 2013 state track meet in Jefferson City this past weekend. After earning two eighth place medals in both hurdle events at the 2012 state meet, Frana had his sights set on another double but a mishap in the preliminary heat of the 110-meter high hurdles ended that goal as Frana failed to qualify in that event for Saturday's final.

The Cassville senior rebounded to qualify in the 300-meter high hurdles -- his best event -- and then he ran a stellar 39.66 to claim second place in the finals. Ezekiel Elliot, of John Burroughs, was the winner, posting a 39.01. Elliot and Frana were the only Class 3 runners to break the 40-second barrier at the state meet.

It was a long journey from 2011 when Frana only reached state in one event and finished dead last of the 16 qualifying hurdlers in the 300's in his sophomore season. He did not qualify for state his freshman year.

Frana finishes his Wildcat track career with three All-State medals.

The Lady Wildcats foursome of Alesha Cousins, Jade Holloway, Grace Gouvion and Katie Sewell qualified for state in the 4x100 relay but did not advance out of Friday's preliminary heat. The Lady Wildcats ran 52.13 with the last qualifying spot going to Chillicothe in 50.06.
