Cassville thinclads earn state berth
The Cassville Wildcats turned in a balanced performance at the Class 3 sectional track meet at Ozark on Saturday, May 18.
Wildcat athletes scored in two individual events and one relay in both the boys' and girls' divisions.
Senior hurdler Cody Frana qualified for state in both the barrier events, and the Lady Wildcats qualified in the 4x100-relay.
Frana led the way for the Wildcats, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 39.37 and finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.6. He also ran a leg on Cassville's 4x100 relay.
The quartet of Frana, Hayden Prater, Glenn Thomas and Brent Thompson finished with a sixth place performance, running 44.69.
The Lady Wildcats raced to a second place finish in the 4x100 relay to earn a berth at state. The squad of Alesha Cousins, Jade Hollway, Grace Gouvion and Katie Sewell turned in a time of 51.74.
Sewell also placed in the triple jump, finding the sand at 32'7.75" for seventh place. Katelyn Pitts scored in the discus with an eighth place throw of 91'10".
Monett's Wes Abramovitz finished sixth in the long jump with a 19'1.75" effort. Wes Antill placed seventh in the 200-meter in 23.93, and Faith Schmidt was seventh in the girls' 100-meter hurdles in 17.35.

The top four athletes in each event qualified to the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 3 Track and Field Championships at Jefferson City on May 24 and 25.
