Purdy tops Crane for baseball district crown
The Purdy Eagles, behind dominant pitching, solid defense and timely hitting, captured the Class 2 District 12 championship on May 14.
Purdy used a similar offensive formula that they used from the semifinal game--jump on them early and keep applying offensive pressure.
Against the Crane Pirates, Purdy upped the ante to 5-1 by the end of three innings. The biggest blow came off the bat of Robby Moody, who belted a two-run double to cap off the third.
The Eagles tallied three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 8-1.
Crane picked up a run in the top of the fifth on a double by Colton Vaught. However, the Pirates were unable to sustain any momentum, as Purdy used the hidden ball trick to end the inning.
Cameron Terry went the distance, allowing only four hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and yielded one walk.
Purdy will now face the winner of the Billings-Spokane district.
