TrueCare offering adult day stays

TrueCare Assisted Living, located on Highway YY in Shell Knob, has nearly completed the extensive remodeling project for the facility that was formerly known as The Playce. When the project is complete, TrueCare will serve as a long-term healthcare facility for assisted living and memory care.

"We meet with the state of Missouri on July 8 to discuss licensing TrueCare as a long-term care facility," said Sheila House, TrueCare's manager. "The state only meets a few times a year for this purpose and July is the first opportunity they have open to speak with us."

The building remodeling project, which began around a year ago, included the construction of a one-hour rated fire wire from foundation to the roof line and from exterior wall to exterior wall and the addition of smoke barrier doors on all three floors of the facility.

The fire alarm system was upgraded with additional smoke detectors added, and all interior sprinkler heads were replaced with quick response heads. Sprinklers were added to the exterior of the building as well.

New steel fire escapes were added to the north and south ends of the structure, and cameras, both inside and outside the facility, were doubled in number. Additionally, window coverings throughout the building were replaced with flame retardant faux wood mini blinds and roller shades.

The remodeling project also called for the installation of delayed egress on all exits, which automatically release when the fire alarm sounds, coded keypads for entry into the building that will improve security for future residents, and an upgrade to the backup generator to ensure it automatically transfers power back on during an electric outage.

Other aspects of the remodeling project were designed as comfort features. A gathering room was added on the first floor of the building and resident use areas were added on the south end of the building on the second and third floors.

"We anticipate our first full-time residents will be able to move in during mid July or early August," said House.

The first floor remodel is complete, and TrueCare is open for adult day stays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Day stays are provided for caregivers who have a job or a medical appointment or just require a respite from caregiving duties.

TrueCare can provide pre-arranged hourly or daily oversight and assistance for adults in need of supervision while caregivers are unavailable.

Meals and snacks, recreational activities and assistance with medications and daily living services will be offered to meet each client's preferences. Areas for lounging or napping in privacy can also be designated when desired.
