Ickes leads Lady Trojans into Class 2 Sectional
When the 4x400 relay finally closed the curtain, Southwest finished eighth in the girls' standings with 32 points and 10th in the boys with 17. Purdy's girls finished 12th with 19.5 points, and the boys took 15th.
Nicole Ickes led the Lady Trojans with fourth-place finishes in both the 100-meter (13.54) and the 300-meter (51.04). Montana Hendrix qualified for sectionals in the high jump, clearing 4'10" for third.
The Southwest girls qualified in two relays. The 4x200 relay sprint foursome of Megan Cook, Hendrix, Ickes and Shannon Mitchell placed fourth in 1:58.1. Then the 4x400 quartet of Cook, Hendrix, Shannon Mitchell and Michaela Mitchell ran 4.26.4, also placing fourth.
Kordell McNabb, the senior strongman and school record holder in the shot, was the only Southwest boy to qualify for sectionals. McNabb hurled the sphere 43'10.5", good for third place.
Harkey claims second in vault
Two girls qualified for sectionals for Purdy. Kaylynn Harkey cleared the bar at 9'6" to take second in the pole vault, and Mattie White placed fourth in the shot with a throw of 30'9.25".
The Class 2 qualifiers will compete at Fair Grove in the Sectional 3 meet on Saturday, May 11 for a chance to qualify to the Class 2 state meet at Jefferson City on May 17
