Dogwood Festival is Saturday

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

The 27th annual Dogwood Car, Truck and Motorcycle Festival will be held on the square in Cassville this Saturday. Once again, over 100 entries are expected for this year's event, which is sponsored by the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce.

"The Dogwood has a strong history in Cassville and is fun for both car enthusiasts and the general public," said Mindi Artherton, chamber executive director. "The event offers disk-jockey music and entertainment, food vendors, shopping and over 100 cars parked around the square."

Festival musical entertainment will be sponsored by Four Seasons Real Estate.

"At noon, participants will be asked to start their cars and rev their engines for the Dogwood tradition, thunder around the square," said Artherton. "New this year, the Cassville Cruisers will host a special cruise-in on May 3 prior to the festival."

The cruise-in will be held on the square from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday night. The event will offer door prizes, concessions, music and camaraderie among car enthusiasts.

"We wanted to host the cruise-in around the square on Friday night to encourage people to stay the night in Cassville and in turn help our local businesses," said Troy Lowe, Cassville Cruisers president. "This is a good opportunity for our car club to get together and showcase our members' cars."

Dogwood Car, Truck and Motorcycle Festival registration will be held inside the Barry County Courthouse this year. Registration hours are from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., and judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle.

The chamber is currently accepting early entries at its office, located at 504 Main St. in Cassville. The first 100 show entries will receive a goody bag, which will include a commemorative dash plaque and gift items donated by local businesses.

Participants will have an opportunity to compete for 25 class awards and 31 specialty picks. Winners of class awards will receive either a first place trophy or a second place plaque. Awards will be presented at around 3 p.m.
