RRSP is Missouri's favorite trout park

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

On April 23, Gov. Jay Nixon announced that Missouri residents selected Roaring River State Park as their favorite state park for trout fishing through a poll published on the state website, mo.gov.

"Missouri has three spectacular state parks for trout fishing, and each offers unique opportunities to create lasting memories," said Nixon. "Whether you're an experienced angler or a first-time fisher, this is the year to get out and enjoy the beauty of Missouri's state parks."

The online poll asked website visitors to select their favorite state park to catch rainbow trout. In addition to Roaring River, poll options included Bennett Spring and Montauk state parks. Roaring River received 46 percent of the vote, but was closely followed by Bennett Spring with 44 percent of the vote. Montauk received 10 percent of the vote.

Earlier this year, Nixon, a lifelong trout fisherman, signed a proclamation naming 2013 as Missouri's Year of the Trout. The proclamation encourages Missourians to take advantage of opportunities to enjoy premier trout fishing in Missouri State Parks.

"Anglers of all ages and experience levels will be able to engage in a variety of activities focused on this valuable outdoor activity," said Bill Bryan, Missouri State Parks director. "We want Missourians throughout the state to have every opportunity to enjoy the trout fishing season to its fullest."

Missouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will commemorate the year with Troutapalooza, a series of events designed to engage experienced anglers and introduce new participants to the activity. Troutapalooza, which will take place at the end of the trout season, on Oct. 31, will feature an assortment of activities to promote fishing for all ages and skill levels, including a passport program, fishing clinics, weekly drawings, tournaments, coloring contests and special programs.
