Prescription Take Back Day is April 27

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

The Cassville Police Department will participate in DEA Prescription Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27. Expired and unused prescription medications will be accepted at Cassville City Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"The Prescription Take Back Day is to help people to properly dispose of unused medications," said Cassville Police Chief Dana Kammerlohr. "Proper disposal of medication helps protect the environment and keeps the medicine from being flushed into our water systems.

"This also helps keep the medication out of the hands of people who do not have a prescription or need the medication, but want to use it for recreational use only," added Kammerlohr.

Area community members should drop medications off at the back of the city hall building using the Cassville Council Chambers entrance. The city hall is located at 300 Main St. in Cassville.

"We want to encourage people to take the time to clean out their medicine drawers or cabinets and properly dispose of their unused medicine," said Kammerlohr.

Expired over-the-counter medications will be accepted, but illegal drugs and sharp objects, including syringes, will not be accepted during the event.
