Butterfield city-wide sale, clean-up dates set
On March 14, aldermen in Butterfield approved dates for the city-wide garage sale and clean-up.
The city-wide garage sale has been set for April 26 and 27. Many sellers will have items available at the Butterfield Community Center.
The city-wide clean-up will follow from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4. Officer Danny Privett, with the Butterfield Police Department, will issue warning letters to residents in violation of the city's nuisance code prior to the clean-up.
Banned items include: hazardous waste, paints, solvents, tires, batteries and medical waste.
Yard clippings, leaves, limbs and brush will be accepted at the wastewater treatment plant. No tree stumps, items in garbage bags, plastic bags or containers or manufactured products will be accepted.
There is no charge for city residents.
Aldermen approved the sale of a 24-inch backhoe bucket from the public works department.
Discussion also touched on the need to raise several manholes and lids to street surface level. Aldermen agreed to have new connections installed before roadwork is completed on Center Street to accommodate new residential construction in that area.
In other business, aldermen approved:
* Purchasing cold mix for street repairs.
* Replacing the windshield in the patrol car.
* Replacing water meters with more than 1 million gallons usage.
* Purchasing hand tools for the public works department.
