The Cassville Family YMCA is currently preparing for its annual Healthy Kids Day event, which will be held at the local facility from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.

"As part of the Y's efforts to strengthen community through healthy living, the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day is the largest nationally recognized health day for kids and their families," said Dove Haney, Cassville YMCA facility manager. "For more than 20 years, Healthy Kids Day has celebrated kids' health and continues to teach healthy habits for kids and families, encourage active play and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity."

Activities planned for this year's Healthy Kids Day event include: bounce houses and inflatables; beach ball volleyball; a one-mile fun run; healthy snacks; archery; and a rock wall climbing activity. Children who take part in the one-mile fun run will receive a ticket to a celebration party at the new Monett Area YMCA facility.

"This free community event is intended to help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities and inspire them to carry that spirit of fun through their summer," said Haney. "Through Healthy Kids Day, our national initiative to improve the health and well being of kids, the Y challenges families to get a jump on summer by addressing critical gaps in kids' health and education. Summer is the perfect time to make playing and learning a family goal."

Area organizations, churches and healthcare providers are invited to offer activities and information designed to encourage kids to become more active and engage in learning. Booth spaces are provided free of charge.

Sponsors are needed for the event. Sponsorship donations will be used to provide participating children with free insulated lunch bags.

The Cassville Family YMCA is located at 408 State Highway 248 between Papa Vito's and Able 2.
