Purdy athletes compete at Hillbilly Relays

First place finish Times Photo by Jon Whitlock Purdy's Kaylynn Harkey took first place in the pole vault competition at the Hillbilly Relays. Harkey cleared a height of 9'6".

Twenty-two schools attended the Hillbilly Relays in Pierce City on April 9 to compete for area bragging rights.

Pierce City took top honors in the girls' division, scoring 89 points. Ash Grove was second with 87 points, and Lamar took third, tallying 81 points.

Lamar won the gold medal in the boys' division with 180 points. Pierce City finished second with 68 points and Sarcoxie was third with 65 points.

Results for Purdy are as follows.

First place

* Pole vault: Kaylynn Harkey, 9'6".

Sixth place

* 4x800 relay: Lissa Vanderhorst, Kailey Pettit, Haley McCord and Jerrica Wall.12:26.21.

* 800-meter: Brittany Schultz, 2:47.02.

* 4x400 relay: Schultz, Harkey, Wall and Ashton Young, 4:50.16.

Editor's note: Wheaton and Southwest also participated at Pierce City, but no results were available at the publishing deadline.
