George L. Kiefer, 80, of Eagle Rock, MO, formerly Blue Springs, Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO, died at his son's home in Republic on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

Born in St. Joseph, MO on August 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Leslie G. Kiefer and Marjorie (Bennett) Kiefer.

George was a successful businessman and salesman in the snack food industry and was considered a mentor by many of his colleagues. For 27 years, he was employed by Kitty Clover Potato Chips, attaining the position of V.P. of Sales and Marketing. He later founded a regional food brokerage business, Kiefer's Snack Food Specialists.

He was the husband of Anna Rose (Watts) Kiefer. Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves two sons, Lawrence and his wife Karen Kiefer of Olathe, Gary and his wife Mary Kiefer of Republic, a daughter Cathy and her husband James Sturm; 8 grandchildren, Emily and her husband Anthony Dewhirst, Patrick Kiefer, Kristina Newbold and her husband Jon, J.T. Sanders, Michelle Sanders, Katlin Kiefer, Peregrine Sturm, Cooper Sturm; and a great-granddaughter, Evangeline Dewhirst.

He is also survived by a sister, Freida Shriner and her husband Warren of Topeka, KS, and was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Calvert.

Friends called from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Meadors Funeral Home, 314 N. Main, Republic, MO. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial followed at Lindsey Cemetery.
