Wheaton man killed in crash

A Wheaton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 76 about two miles south of Wheaton.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2000 Ford SUV, Jared T. Spears, 26, of Monett, ran off the roadway and overturned.

James M. Bell, 51, of Wheaton, was killed. Spears was taken to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with moderate injuries. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

Other crashes

* Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday on Highway H about one mile north of Monett. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, Juan C. Hernandez-Silva, 17, of Monett, lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree-covered embankment and overturned. Two passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries. Leonard Garcia, 15, and Jesus Perez, 17, both of Purdy were taken by ambulance to Cox Monett Hospital with moderate injuries. All occupants were wearing seat belts.

* An Aurora woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 39 about three miles south of Aurora. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2012 Ford Focus, Travis L. Amos, 35, of Aurora, attempted to overtake a 1987 Chevrolet Camero, driven by Derrick L. Brown, 27, of Ozark, who turned left into the path of the Amos vehicle. Anya L. Amos, 32, a passenger in the Focus, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries. Anya and Travis Amos were wearing seat belts. Brown was not.
