The Wheaton Historical Society is currently collecting recipes for a cookbook fundraiser. Proceeds from the sale of the books will benefit the historical society.
"We will take them in any form we can get them," said Betty Lamberson, who is a member of the cookbook fundraiser committee. "Photocopies, old recipe cards we can return, handwritten, even from the back of an envelope or old napkin or via email."
The cookbook will include the following eight categories: appetizers and beverages; soups and salads; vegetables and side dishes; main dishes; breads and rolls; cookies; candy; and other.
"Since we are a historical society, we will have a place at the bottom of the recipe for some notes," said Lamberson. "I got this recipe from my mom, grandmother, etc., or we serve it each year at Christmas."
Individuals who submit recipes for the cookbook can mark their entries in memory or honor of friends or loved ones.
Lamberson said the historical society would like to know if recipes have a connection to Wheaton or are heart healthy or diabetic. Calorie counts and other information can also be included.
"We are planning on our book containing 400 recipes and some history of the organization and Wheaton," said Lamberson.
The cookbooks can be pre-ordered at a cost of $10 plus $2 for shipping and handling. The books will debut at the annual Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue on Aug. 24. Copies will be available for purchase at an increased cost.
The cookbook fundraiser committee includes: Lamberson, Kay Lombard, Jill Paden, Becky Roskob, Beverly Riddle, Sue Wilkins, Joe Ann Jump and Nola McMillen.
Recipes can be mailed to: P.O. Box 385, Wheaton MO 64874 or emailed to email@example.com. Recipes will be collected through April 17.
