It is with both sadness and excitement that I am announcing that I will only serve as the editor of the Cassville Democrat for about nine more weeks. My final day in the leadership position at the newspaper is May 31. In January of this year, my husband accepted a new job located several hours from Cassville. Over the last few months, James and I have discussed our family's future, and after much deliberation, we have decided that Sophie and I should join him in his new location. I'm sad to go, but excited about this new chapter in our lives.
It has not been an easy decision to leave, not only my position at the newspaper, but the community that I love so much. Since I began working at the Cassville Democrat, I have grown more and more invested in Cassville and the entire Barry County community. I adore the people of our county, and I hope you all know that I have always worked to serve all of you to the best of my ability.
I can still remember my complete astonishment when Lisa Schlichtman offered me the position of part-time reporter at the newspaper nearly eight years ago. That position transitioned to a full-time reporter position, an assistant editor position and finally to my current position as editor. I hope that Lisa has never doubted that she made the right decision when she took a chance on an inexperienced writer in 2005. Under her direction I have learned the value of developing quality relationships with sources, being accountable to our community and doing my best to present our readers with pertinent information each week.
As the Cassville Democrat looks for a new editor, readers should rest assured that Lisa and Mike Schlichtman will be available to ensure a quality newspaper is produced each and every week. Plus, you aren't getting rid of me yet. I will be here to share the news and offer my opinions for nine more editions.
