John Vernon Starch-man, 90, passed away March 23, 2013, at the Missouri State Veteran's Home, Mount Vernon, Mo.

He was born Nov. 8, 1922, to John and Cora Starchman, both deceased.

He served in the U.S. Navy from July 15, 1942 to Nov. 25, 1945.

He married Charlotte L. Cox on Oct. 19, 1946. She survives in Joplin.

Additional survivors include: his three sons, John L. Starchman and wife, Judy, of Cassville, Paul C. Starchman, Joplin, and David L. Starchman and wife, Ruth, of Joplin; three grandchildren, Brian L. Starchman, Joplin, John R. Starchman, Webb City, and Janell Hurn and husband, Ryan, of Branson; two great-grandchildren, Megan Turner, of Webb City, and Ryan Starchman, of Joplin; and two brothers, Vearl Starchman, Carl Junction, and Lional Starchman, of California. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joe Starchman, born May 2, 1978, and passed away May 31, 1995; seven sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation at Mason-Woodard Chapel will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today (Wednesday). Funeral services will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial with full military honors will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
