Wheaton R-3 board sets dates for graduation, last day of class

Wheaton R-3 School Board members set graduation for Monday, May 20 during their regular February meeting.

Baccalaureate has been set for Sunday, May 19, and the final day of senior classes has been set for Friday, May 17. The final day of classes for all other grades is Thursday, May 23.

In other business, board members named Coleman Lee as the head volleyball coach; extend a special education director contract to Traci Mitchell; extended an elementary school principal's contract to Eileen Ford; and extended a junior high and high school principal's contract to Mike Evans, all for the 2013-14 school year.

A motion by Doug Goosetree, seconded by Bobby Banks, to remove Jason Webb as the spring baseball coach failed three-to-four. Doug Goosetree, Landon Brattin and Bobby Banks were in favor of the motion, and Dan Goosetree, Kendall Haynes, Larry Prewitt and Lewis Royer voted to defeat the motion.

Board members approved Davis, Lynn and Moots, P.C., to conduct the annual financial audit for the district. They also approved excavation work by Graham's Excavating, on a newly purchased lot in the amount of $6,700.

Board members also reviewed the music, visual arts, agriculture and math programs during the meeting.
