Area athlete earn academic awards

The Missouri High School 2011-12 Academic All-State team was announced this week.

The Missouri State Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association recognizes student athletes and teams for their academic success in the classroom by awarding an Academic All-State award to both teams and individual student athletes.

A team is awarded the distinction of being an Academic All-State squad if all players on the varsity team have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or higher.

An individual athlete qualifies for the Academic All-State first team if they have a cumulative GPA of 3.88 to 4.0 to qualify for the second team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA 3.75 to 3.87 at the end of the fall semester.

Area softball players who achieved All-State academic honors are as follows.

Purdy

Team GPA 3.56

First team: Jayse Henderson.

Second team: Mattie White.

Southwest

Team GPA 3.30

First team: Brittany Miles.

Second team: Courtney Morgan, Cady Swindle, Hannah Hendrix and Coley Ickes.

Monett

Team GPA 3.65

First team: Raigan Ratliff, Josee Krueger, Kelsey Wiseman, Allie Krueger, Abby Krueger, Brooke Madison and Brooke Burnside.

Pierce City

Team GPA 3.72

First team: Emily Ashley, McKenzie Moreland, Bailee Hayward, Becca Morin, and Monica Sexton.

Second team: Mattie Brottlund.
