Cassville SB hires teachers, approves extra duties

The Cassville R-4 School Board hired two teachers and approved extra duty assignments for two staff members at its regularly scheduled meeting on March 14.

The board hired Amanda Turner as a high school math teacher and Talana Sloan as a high school speech and debate teacher for the 2013-14 school year. It also approved extra duty assignments for Kristen Large and Chelsea Swadley, who will serve as high school cheerleading sponsors next year.

Letters of resignation were received from high school aide Patty Brown, cook Sandra Sanders and high school math teacher Casandra Burchell.

During the meeting, the board also reviewed bids for bleachers, choir robes and band uniforms.

The district received base bid of $128,075 with an alternate bid of $11,587 from Hartland Seating and a $103,111 base bid with alternate bids of $11,290 and $10,640 from Midstates School Equipment. All of the bids were ejected.

The board also rejected the following bids for 100 band uniforms, $25,085, Band Shoppe; and $33,975, Fred Miller, Inc.

A $22,350 bid from Stuart Hoffman for 150 choir robes was approved. The board also received a $31,633.50 bid for 150 robes from Murphy Robes, Division of Herff Jones, Inc.

In other business, the R-4 School Board:

* Approved the Missouri School Boards Association with a full maintenance service agreement for the 2013-14 school year.

* Scheduled commencement ceremonies to be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 12.

* Approved the Southwest Center education service contract for the 2013-14 school year.

* Rejected a request to transfer weighted grade point average for student Samantha Robb. The request was presented by Robb's mother, Jennifer.
