House fire results in fatality

An early morning house fire claimed the life of Katherine Hogenmiller, of rural Monett, on Saturday, March 2.

At approximately 6 a.m. the Monett Rural Fire Department responded to a fully involved house fire in Barry County, north of Highway Z, on Farm Road 1160.

When firefighters arrived at the location, it was reported that one woman was unaccounted for in the home. Monett Rural Fire Department Chief Larry Eden stated that there was a fatality in the home.

Assisting the Monett Rural Fire Department was the City of Monett, Aurora Rural Fire Department and Verona Fire Department. Monett Rural had one tanker on the scene, and Aurora Rural Fire Department had two tankers. Barry-Lawrence Ambulance was on scene for approximately two hours, and Charlie McManus, deputy coroner, responded to the fatality.

The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

The fire departments were on scene approximately four and a half hours.
