CHS to offer ACT review course
Cassville High School will offer an ACT review course over a three-day time frame in March and April. The course fee is $35, which will cover the costs of two workbooks and a practice test and must be paid in advance.
The first session of the course will be held on Saturday, March 23. Students will complete a practice ACT test under actual exam conditions. Students must complete the practice test, which will be administered at the high school from 8 to 11:45 a.m.
The second session of the course will be held on Thursday, March 28. Students will review the practice ACT test scores, and tutoring and review of all four ACT test areas will be offered.
Students will meet again on Thursday, April 11. During the session, students will grade and discuss assigned practice exercises and continue a review in the ACT workbooks.
As a final activity, students will complete the official ACT exam on Saturday, April 18. The test will be administered at Cassville High School. Students must register and pay for the exam in advance.
Junior and senior students who qualify for free or reduced price lunches can obtain fee waivers at the Cassville High School counselors' office.
Although registration packets are also available at the counselors' office, students must complete registration with their parents, and ACT strongly recommends on-line registration at www.actstudent.org.
The registration deadline is Friday, March 8.
The ACT review course will be limited to the first 20 Cassville High School students who register and pay the $35 course fee. Students who participated in the class in the past will not be charged a fee if there is space available and they have retained their course books.
Students may register and pay the course fee in the counselors' office. The registration deadline for the course is Wednesday, March 15. Juniors are encouraged to take part in the course, and sophomores will be accepted if space is available.
According to a press release issued by the Cassville High School counselors' office, similar classes offered through private companies cost as much as $750. The counselors also remind CHS students that in Missouri, a score of 31 guarantees a student for Bright Flight, which provides a $2,000 scholarship each year and is renewable for up to five years.
