Monett Dairy Day scheduled
The 44th annual Monett Dairy Day will be held at the Monett National Guard Armory on Tuesday, March 5. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the program will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Stacey Hamilton, University of Missouri Extension dairy specialist, who is based in Mt. Vernon, will begin the program by offering a comparison of accelerated versus standard milk replacers.
Gregory Sowder, Great American Insurance Group, and Lisa Hyde, FCS, will discus crop insurance before the group breaks for a lunch provided by the Monett Chamber of Commerce.
After the free lunch, a dairy outlook will be offered by Scott Brown, University of Missouri agriculture economist, based in Columbia. Dr. Jared Grantland, DVM, of the Animal Clinic of Monett, will complete the program with a discussion on dairy vaccination programs.
The dairy day is co-sponsored by Barry County Extension and the Monett Chamber of Commerce. The event is open to all community members. Advance registration is not required.
The educational event has presented research-based information to area dairy producers to assist them in making management decisions since its establishment in 1969.
"Expected low milk prices for the current year will present major challenges to area producers," said Dr. Tony Rickard, University of Missouri Extension dairy specialist, based in Barry County. "The topics discussed at the conference will assist dairy farmers in confronting these issues."
