Carl Duane Wilkinson, 92, of Golden, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, in Mt. Vernon. The Final Military Salute was given to him as an honored veteran.

He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Hutchinson, Kan., the son of Carl C. and Kathryn (Saunders) Wilkinson. On April 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Nelly Regina Wines, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Dorrel Wilkinson; and one sister, Patricia Ann Wilkinson Smith.

Survivors include: his children, Dianne Rollins and her husband, Ron, of Olathe, Kan., David Wilkinson and his wife, Charlotte, of Rose Hill, Kan., and Susan Neahring of Golden; brother-in-law, Duane Smith, of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He grew up in Kansas, graduating from Wichita High School East and attended Wichita State University. He joined the U.S. Army, serving in England, France and Germany. After the service, he helped his father build The Wilkie Auto Service. He worked at Beech Craft for 25 years. When he ended his career he was the chief of methods engineering and production. In 1986, he moved from Wichita, Kan., to Golden to make his home.

No services are scheduled at this time due to research. Donations can be made to The Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon Missouri, The Alzheimer's Association, or KU Medical School, Department of Medical Research, c/o Dr. Kathy Newell.
