Safety, training a priority at Exeter R-6

Exeter R-6 School Board members heard a variety of reports during the Jan. 7 meeting.

Robert Taylor, principal at the Exeter District, reported crisis prevention training had been completed during a teacher's in-service in January, and the district's safety policies had also been reviewed at that time.

Students will be taking a second semester field trip to The Jones Center in Arkansas.

Board members reviewed the "Winning Kids with Sports" book, authored by Dr. Rick McGuire, offering advice to coaches on developing practice plans, essential mental and psycho-emotional skills and attributes and the physical skills to assist students enrolled in sporting events.

Sarah Buntin reviewed benchmark tests for math and reading with board members during the meeting.

Dr. Ernie Raney reported in the challenges the district is facing in meeting annual performance report standards set by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In final business, board members approved naming Tim Jordan as the district's foster care liaison.
