Sweetheart dinner held
The Wheaton Historical Society and the Wheaton Depot Museum held the sixth annual Valentine Sweetheart Dinner at the Wheaton Community Center on Feb. 9. For the second consecutive year, members of the organization took responsibility for providing table settings and decorations. A competition was held for the People's Choice Award, and each attendee had the opportunity to vote for their favorite table. The winner of the competition was Kay Lombard. Her table display is pictured above. Lombard donated the $25 prize to the historical society. Jim Fohn provided smoked ham and brisket for the meal. The entree was complemented by a tasty potato casserole, country green beans and homemade rolls, which were donated by Barbara Hickman, and a fresh tossed salad, donated by the First Baptist Church of Wheaton and prepared by historical society members Sue Wilkins and Joe Ann Jump. Susan Harris, of Wheaton, provided the gourmet cupcakes, pictured below, which served as dessert. The valentine theme was carried over to the event's entertainment. Derek Harmon, Wheaton United Methodist Church minister, and his wife, Jamie, presented a humorous puppet show that was written by Jamie. A skit was presented by Lindy Lombard and Kay Hughes. Several musical performances were provided by Shelly Wiseman, Rodney and Kay Hughes all accompanied by Shelia Young on piano. The evening was enjoyed by all. Historical society members encourage individuals to order tickets for next year's dinner early because the Valentine Sweetheart Dinner is now an annual sell-out event.
