Purdy sweeps two games from McAuley

The Purdy Eagles and Lady Eagles swept a pair of conference basketball tilts from McAuley on Feb. 8.

Purdy's boys used a second half surge to claim a 73-62 decision, and the girls gritted out a 34-25 win.

In the boys' game, the McAuley Warriors built a 22-13 lead in the first quarter. With McAuley ahead 31-22 midway through the second, the Eagles mounted a comeback to trim the lead to 37-32 at halftime.

The Eagles (15-8, 3-2 Ozark 7 Conference) exploded in the third quarter, scoring the first 7 points. The rally sparked a 16-3 run that propelled Purdy to a 52-40 lead after three periods.

The Eagles held off the Warriors 19-17 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Scoring for Purdy: Keevin Walker and Brent Cornman, 17 points each; Cameron Terry, 16; Alex Mareth, 13; Austin Hancock, 6; and Glenn Scott and Jonatan Salazar, 2 each.

Scoring for McAuley: Shaw Robertson, 27 points; Connor Schlegel, 13; Cole Lowry, 5; Phillip Calcagno, 4; Zach Crossland, 3; and Trey Melton and Lathan Viasin, 2 each.

Purdy girls

Purdy raced to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and held off the Lady Warriors to claim the 34-25 victory.

McAuley outscored Purdy 7-3 in the second period but could not pull any closer in the second half,

Scoring for Purdy: Katie Hughes, 10 points; Desirie Ennes and Billie House, 8 each; Jayse Henderson, 6; and Courtney White, 2.

Scoring for McAuley: Victoria Foley, 21 points; and Abby Pekarek and Katie Carr, 2 each.
