Joan Rose (Friess) Irsik, 78, passed away at Springfield Mercy Hospital on Feb. 7, 2013, following a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 26, 1934, in Cheney, Kan., to Fred and Anna Friess. She grew up on a farm near Wichita. After vacationing in the Ozarks for several years, they relocated their family of five children to Shell Knob in 1967. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob.

Survivors include: her husband Harlow, of Cassville; four sons, Wayne and his wife, Debra, of Omaha, Neb., Mark and his wife, Vicki, of Cassville, Stephen and Janice Brown, of Denver, Colo., and Stanley and his wife, Alicia, of Neosho; one daughter, Susie Henson, of Eagle Rock; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Friess, of Cheney, Kan., and Jerry Friess, of Wichita, Kan.; and four sisters, Nathaline Zoglman, of Cheney, Kan., Dolores Behrens, of Denver, Colo., Rosie Orth, of Wichita, Kan., and Bernadette Hines, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleo Friess and David Friess, one sister, Elizabeth Paddock, and a grandson.

A memorial service will be held in Cheney, Kan., at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of White Funeral Home of Cassville.
