Purdy High School students Katherine Wise and Dana Cunningham, recently received acceptance letters for this year's Missouri Fine Arts Academy.

The academy, which will be held June 9 through June 29 on the Missouri State University campus, is a three-week summer residential program for highly motivated student artists in visual arts, theatre, dance, creative writing and music.

The academy offers an intense schedule of classes in interdisciplinary and discipline specific arts and a wide range of co-curricular activities.

To be accepted in the academy, applicants must complete a 500-word essay describing his or her involvement in the arts, an application, and submit a student evaluation completed by school personnel and a video performance. A panel of artists and educators adjudicate applicants.

"I screamed and threw the letter in the air," said Wise. "I am so excited to focus solely on music for three solid weeks. I am hoping the experience will give me some direction regarding a future career in the arts."

"I am excited that I was accepted," said Cunningham. "It will be a new experience and an opportunity to meet new people, take classes and expand my knowledge of the arts."

Wise is the daughter of Larry and Ginger Wise and is currently a sophomore at Purdy High School. Cunningham is the daughter of Jon and Janie Cunningham and currently a junior at Purdy High School

Each participant must pay a fee of $1,500 to participate in the academy. Both Dana and Katherine will be holding fundraisers to cover their fees.
