Sheriff releases end-of-year call numbers

The Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to a total of 12,254 calls during 2012 according to an end-of-year report released by Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly and Jail Administrator Jan Smith.

The calls handled in 2012 was down slightly, compared to the 12,981 county officers responded to in 2011.

Last year showed an increase in the number of inmates held at the Barry County Jail. During 2012, there were 1,811 individuals booked in the local jail, which is 95 more than in 2011.

This total equated to an average daily inmate count of 54, which is slightly lower than the average recorded in 2011. The lowest number of inmates housed on a single day was 34, and the highest number of inmates held on a single day was 75.

Arrests made by county deputies that resulted in jail bookings in 2012 were as follows (2011 statistics are listed in parentheses): six hour-hold, 132 (115); 12-hour hold, 210 (157); aggravated assault, 4 (2); animal neglect, 1 (3).
