RWTB Martial Arts Center and the City of Seligman will partner to offer two self-defense classes at the Seligman Community Building on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The KID SAFE (Surviving a Fighting Encounter) class will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon. The program, which is for boys and girls ages 6 to 12, is designed to empower youth by stressing the importance of self control and respect for others.

KID SAFE focuses on a variety of martial arts topics, including evasion skills; striking skills; basic self-defense; and defense against a bully.

A Women's Self-Defense SAFE class will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. The class will offer a no-nonsense women's self-defense program that equips female participants with the knowledge and skill to successfully defend themselves in real life scenarios.

The program is designed for women and teen girls who are 13 years of age or older. Topics will include: situational awareness; evasive skills; basic striking skills; pressure points; escapes; and self-defense weapons.

Although students in the KID SAFE and Women's SAFE classes do not need to be athletes to participate, the classes are hands-on and techniques will require basic motor skills. Participants are encouraged to consult a physician if they have questions about how the classes might impact their health.

Both classes are free for Seligman residents.
