Races to feature six new candidates

With less than a week to file for the upcoming election, area municipalities and school boards have attracted only six new candidates. Over a dozen incumbents have also announced candidacy for the April election.

Cassville Mayor Bill Shiveley will face off against challenger Tracy Lannum in the spring election. North Ward Alderman Ann Hennigan has also filed for the upcoming election.

Cassville's other incumbent, Jeff Parsons, south ward alderman, has not filed for re-election.

Seligman Mayor Jason Raucstadt will also face opposition in the upcoming election. Former Mayor Jerry Montgomery and newcomer Roy Carrothers have both filed for the post.

Eric Freeman, Seligman west ward alderman, has also re-filed, but Danny Joe Hendrix, east ward alderman, has not filed for re-election.

The Washburn, Butterfield and Wheaton municipal races have only attracted incumbent candidates.

Current council members who have filed for re-election include: John Tiedeman, Washburn mayor; Mark Thomas, Butterfield, east ward alderman; Donnie Powell, Wheaton mayor; Naomi Young, Wheaton west ward alderman, Rhonda Scott, Exeter south ward alderman; and Jim Morse, Exeter north ward alderman.

Washburn incumbents Mary Roller and Amanda Crim, east ward aldermen, and Pat Rose, west ward alderman have not filed for re-election. Guadalupe Meza, Butterfield west ward alderman, David Shockley, Wheaton east ward alderman, and Rusty Reed, Exeter mayor, have also not yet refiled.

The Purdy municipal election has attracted no candidates so far. Mayor Ron Dutra and Aldermen Wayne Rupp, Steve Roden and Sean Priest will leave the council if they do not file for re-election.

School board elections

Of the six local school board elections, three feature only unopposed incumbents. Newcomers have filed for the Cassville, Purdy and Southwest school boards.

The Cassville School Board election has drawn one new candidate. Incumbents Greg Allen and Hal Smith will face off against newcomer Wade Hermansen.

Although Purdy Incumbent Ed Mareth and Southwest Incumbent Bobby Stephens have both filed for re-election. Those races will also feature new names. Todd Schallert has filed for the Purdy School Board, and Brian Robbins has filed for the Southwest School Board.

Purdy's other Incumbent Tracy Tate and Robert Shockley, current Southwest School Board member, have not yet re-filed.

Only incumbent candidates have filed for re-election to the Exeter, Wheaton and Shell Knob school boards. They include: Eric O'Neill and Brad Porter, Exeter; Dan Goostree and Kendall Haynes, Wheaton; and Johnathan Gray and Rusty Rickard, Shell Knob.

Filing for the municipal and school board offices opened on Dec. 11, 2012. Candidates must file for the election by Tuesday, Jan. 15. The election is scheduled to be held on April 2.
