Girl Scout cookies on sale now
It's Girl Scout cookie time and local chapters across the area will offer eight delicious varieties to buyers.
Girls will go door-to-door or set up booth spaces at local merchants to sell their cookies.
This popular fundraiser helps support various programs through the Missouri Heartland's Girl Scout Cookie Program, including troop proceeds and credits that can be used to pay for camp, leadership programs, uniforms and more.
Girl Scouts will be selling eight cookie varieties from now though the middle of March. Those include: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lots, Lemonades and new this year, Mango Crémes.
All cookies are $4 per box.
In addition to earning money, the cookie program teaches Girl Scouts an assortment of leadership skills. Scouts are responsible for setting goals, managing their sales and evaluating progress.
"By creating a plan, interacting with customers and working as a part of a team, girls learn skills essential to leadership, to success and to life," said Anne Soots, Girl Scouts of Missouri Heartland chief executive officer. "The Girl Scout cookie program reminds us of the great potential of girls.
"Since 1912, Girl Scouts has taught self-sufficiency, independence and service," Soots said. "The Girl Scout cookie program is a fantastic way for girls to learn those skills."
The Girl Scout cookie share program also teaches girls the importance of philanthropy. The program gives customers an opportunity to donate cookies to specific organizations. Local Scouts plan to offer a cookie share opportunity that will send cookies to military troops and military families serving abroad this year.
Those who do not pre-order Girl Scout cookies will have the opportunity to purchase cookies at an assortment of booth sale events that will be held later this year.
