Danny Joe Nelson, 70, of Cassville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
He was born May 18, 1942, in Cassville, the son of Howard L. Nelson and M. Marie (Brandon) Nelson Allison. On Aug. 17, 1963, in Austin, Texas, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Hinson, who survives. Additional survivors include: one daughter, Angela Engel and her husband, Michael, of Hutchinson, Kan.; his mother, Marie Allison, of Cassville; three brothers, Howard Lee Nelson and his wife, Carolyn, of Exeter, Dennis Nelson and his wife, Dianne, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Floyd Allison and his wife, Pat, of Cassville; two sisters, Sue Panigay and her husband, Bill, of West Branch, Mich., and Janell Sexton and her husband, Garry, of Mountain Home, Ark.; and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his father, Howard Nelson and step-father, Bill Allison.
He grew up and received his education in Cassville, graduating from Cassville High School with the Class of 1960. While growing up he worked on the farm. He moved to Texas, where he began doing precast construction work. He was plant manager for Doskocil Precast in Hutchinson, Kan., for 30 years. During his career he worked in Austin, Texas, Dallas, Texas, Kansas City, Kan., and Hutchinson, Kan. In 1967, he became a Royal Ranger Leader, through the Assemblies of God Ministry, and was still active in leading boys. He was a member of Blessing Heights Worship Center in Cassville.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Blessing Heights Worship Center under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Jack Freeman and Pastor Jim Clay conducted the services. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield.
