CHS student wins oratory contest

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Cassville High School senior Chris Hinebaugh, son of Russell and Gretchen Hinebaugh, won the District 15 American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship contest, which was held at Legion Post #392 in Pineville on Jan. 6. Hinebaugh's oratory was about a citizen's duties and obligations to our government as emphasized in our Constitution. He was also required to demonstrate his knowledge of the Constitution by responding to an excerpt from the Constitution with a three-minute extemporaneous speech. The competition covered seven counties in southwest Missouri. By winning the contest, Hinebaugh qualified for the zone competition, which will be held in Republic. He could have the opportunity to take part in the state and national contests. Hinebaugh expressed appreciation to Legion District 15, the members of Legion Post #118 in Cassville and Commander Pete Landstad for their support.
