The Purple Power Day project, started by Purdy FCCLA members Jessica Ball and Kaylynn Harley, culminated on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, with a check presentation to the family of Carl Geyer. These students have raised awareness of pancreatic cancer, which took the life of Geyer, a social studies teacher at Purdy High School, on Dec. 9, 2011. Chapter members have raised money this fall by designing and selling purple T-shirts, chocolate chip cookies, cake pops and Grape Crush soda. A check, in the amount of $757.32, was presented to the family of Mr. Geyer during a home basketball game. A total of $799.32 has been raised to date. The funds will benefit the PanCan Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
