Trojans tweet Tigers, 67-34
Inspiration can be a two-way street.
After Jay Allen's, "No moral victories scheduled for Friday" tweet, the Southwest Trojans responded with a 67-34 win over Allen's Tigers at Exeter on Jan. 4.
Jordan Epling led the Trojans with 22 points, but James Pettit rocked the house with his flying two-handed jam that ignited a 24-point third quarter for Southwest.
Exeter opened the game with a hail of treys to take a 9-0 lead, but the Trojans shrugged off the early deficit and claimed a 16-12 lead at the first break. Southwest led 34-20 at the half and then exploded to take a 58-32 lead at the final break. The Trojans led by 30 when Pettit scored with 5:38 to play. Epling's trey at the 2:13 mark created the final score.
"We started in a two-two-one zone press to take the ball out of Kong Lee's hands," said Southwest's Jess Ross. "After they hit those three pointers, we switched to our man press and took control of the game.
"I think our kids showed spirit and heart after a slow start to the season," continued Ross. "Hopefully, this game will get us going toward the goals we have set for the year."

On Jan. 7, the Trojans climbed above .500 (7-6, 2-0) with a 70-59 victory over McDonald County.
The Mustangs led 14-12 at the end of the first period, but a 19-13 push by the Trojans in the second quarter gave the black and red a 31-27 halftime edge.
Southwest increased the lead in the third period, outscoring the Mustangs 18-12 in the period.
