Looking for a change of pace and to play different opponents, the Cassville Lady Wildcats basketball team spent their holiday break in the Berryville (Ark.) Holiday Tournament.

Cassville took sixth place in the eight team field playing three schools from the Natural state.

The Lady Wildcats opened play in the tournament bracket with a 46-40 loss to the Elkins Lady Elks.

Cassville started red hot, racing out to an 11-0 lead, but the Lady Elks responded with an 8-6 push to close the quarter.

Foul trouble plagued the black and gold in the second quarter forcing coach Chris Shore to juggle his lineup. Despite the foul hindrance Cassville held a 21-13 edge at intermission.

The Lady Elks turned up the pressure in the second half and employed a two-two-one full-court press that gave the Lady Wildcats fits. Elkins outperformed Cassville 15-10 in the third period and trailed 31-28 to start the final quarter.

Emily Speakman and Raeghan Blisard opened the fourth frame with baskets for the Lady Wildcats but that would end the highlights.

Elkins' Andrea Wilson scored 10 consecutive points to knot the score at 37-37 with 4:45 left in the contest.

Skyler Johnson added 6 points to help the Lady Elks to the victory.

Scoring for Cassville: Speakman, 17; Blisard, 7; Britani Long, 6; Kelsey Baker, 4; and Sydney Curnes, 1.

Due to the weather prohibiting Mena, Ark., from sending their team, Jasper, Ark., was the next opponent for the Lady Wildcats on Dec. 28.

Cassville again raced to a 7-0 lead and never looked back leading 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and 22-13 at halftime.

Jasper scored the first 4 points of the third period but a 21-0 run by the Lady Wildcats propelled them to a 48-21 victory.

Scoring for Cassville: Speakman, 21; Blisard, 10; Brittani Long, 9; Brooke Fields, 6; and Curnes, 2.

Cassville concluded play in the Berryville tournament falling 36-27 to Pea Ridge.

The Lady Hawks built a 14-6 lead in the first period on the back of four 3-pointers and frustrated the Cassville post game.

Pea Ridge lead 19-8 at halftime and 28-12 after three quarters.

The black and gold clawed to within 9 points (29-20) with 3:47 left in the contest but another Pea Ridge triple erased any comeback hopes.

Scoring for Cassville: Speakman, 13; Blisard and Baker, 4 each; Katelyn Pitts, 3; and Curnes, 1.
