Kenneth L. Carr, 95, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Sept. 6, 2012, in BSA Hospice of Amarillo after a brief illness.
He was born July 14, 1917, on the family farm near Cato to Franklin and Mary Hailey Carr. He attended Cato, Jenkins and Cassville High School, graduating with the class of 1936. He was a Navy "Seabee" during WWII. He was married to his wife of nearly 65 years, Eleanor Young, in North Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 19, 1947. He was baptized when a teenager in Flat Creek. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He faithfully served the Lord as a deacon, Bible class teacher, and by example. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know Him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle Olen and Aunt Ruth Hailey Stumpff as well as all maternal and paternal aunts and uncles; a brother and sister-in-law, Lige and Marguerite Hurt Frost; two other brothers-in-law, Clinton Douglas Young and his wife Phyliss, George Willard Young and wife Lynn; sister-in-law Lois Flood and his beloved grandson, Tyler James Carr, of whom he was most proud of.
Survivors include: his wife, Eleanor; a daughter, Barbara Smith and her husband, Randall, and a son, Jim Carr, all of Amarillo; two grandsons, Jason Smith and his wife, Ashley, of Dallas, Texas, and Matt Smith, of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister-in-law Betty Harkins and her husband, Jack, of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Richard Flood and his wife, Opaline and Bob Flood, all of Borger, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a few cousins and many, many friends.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, in the Church of Christ. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Cox Funeral Home.
