The Exeter Tigers squandered an early 16-2 lead and dropped an Ozark 7 game to Joplin McAuley on Monday, Dec. 11, 69-61. A big home crowd had its hopes dashed as the Warriors fought back to trail by only 38-36 at halftime and then took control in the final two periods.
McAuley, led by senior gunner Shaw Robertson's 23 points, outscored the Tigers 19-11 in the third quarter and owned a 55-49 lead at the final break. Despite double digit scoring from Terry Cook (15), Colten Stringer (14) and Kong Lee (13), the Tigers could not secure their second win of the season.
Exeter fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the conference race. McAuley improved to 2-5 and 1-1 with the victory.
The Exeter girls downed McAuley in a low-scoring affair, 29-19. The Lady Tigers held the Lady Warriors to 6, 3, 5 and 5 points by quarter.
But Exeter never reached double digits in any given period either and only outscored McAuley by a single basket in each of the final two quarters.
Rayanna Fare scored a game-high 11 points to lead Exeter, while Victoria Foley's 8 points paced McAuley.
