Lucille S. Manthe, 96, of Shell Knob, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at home with her daughter Mary Hayes and husband, Tom Hayes, where she resided since May 2006.

She was born Nov. 8, 1916, at the home of her parents, Benjamin and Mathilda Wege Tessendorf, in Onaga, Kan. She attended grade school in Onaga.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onaga and the Ladies Guild at the church.

She worked as a waitress at Carl's Steakhouse in Onaga for many years, then as a cook at the Onaga grade school.

She married Howard L. Manthe on Jan. 4, 1941. He died Jan. 30, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Tessendorf and Dale Tessendorf; three sisters, Velma Toothaker, Leona Nolte and Alice Nelson; and a granddaughter.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Hayes and her husband, Tom, Shell Knob; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Saturday at the First Congregational UCC in Onaga. Burial followed in the Onaga Cemetery. Local arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
