The Southwest Lady Trojans stayed unbeaten at 4-0 with a 63-18 victory over McAuley Catholic in an Ozark 7 Conference game at Washburn on Dec. 7.
Southwest led by as many as 34 in the second period and held a 57-17 lead at the final break.
There weren't many highlights for the Lady Warriors.
A Kathryn Wiseman field goal kept McAuley from being shut out in a 25-2 first quarter blitz. Southwest's Nicole Ickes scored a dozen points as the Lady Trojans reached the first break on pace to score 100.
Although taller, the Lady Warriors could not match the speed and ball-handling skills of the hosts. Turnovers and fast-break buckets piled up in the scorebook as Southwest's trapping defense stymied McAuley's offensive scheme.
The Lady Warriors also shot poorly from the free throw line, compounding their offensive struggles. McAuley girls hit only six of 19 attempts from the line. Southwest scored six times from the line but had only 13 opportunities.
It was an impressive conference opener for the experienced Southwest squad.
Scoring for Southwest: Ickes, 14 points; Shannon Mitchell, 12; Michaela Mitchell, 10; Taylor Mettlach, 7; Montana Hendrix and Cady Swindle, 6 each; Jaime Shrum, 5; and Jessica Morgan, 3.
Scoring for McAuley: Kate Mieseler, 7 points; Kathryn Wiseman, 3; Katie Carr, Gabby Moore and Victoria Foley, 2 apiece; and Megan Price and Kambry Wagner, 1 each.
The Lady Trojans will travel to Summit Christian Academy on Dec. 15. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
