DNR offers grants

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste management program (SWMP) administers a grant program to divert scrap tires from landfills and illegal dumps by promoting end-uses for scrap tires.

During Fiscal Year 2013, there are two scrap tire surface material grant offerings being made for the cost and delivery of scrap tire surface material.

The application process for the Non-Playground Scrap Tire surface Material Grant, available for running tracks, walking trails, equine/livestock stalls/riding area materials or other similar types of projects, or molded products is now open and applications are due no later than Dec. 14.

The application process for Playground Scrap Tire Surface material Grant, available for playground projects only, is also open and applications are due no later than Jan. 18, 2013.

Grant applications will be notified of award, and a Financial Assistance Agreement will need to be executed between the department and the grant recipient prior to any work being done on the project.

Public schools, private schools, parks, non-profit day care centers and other non-profit organizations and governmental organizations other than state agencies are eligible to submit applications. Prior recipients are ineligible, unless an expansion to the prior surfaced area is planned or a different location will be surfaced.

Applications are available online at http://www.dnr.mo.gov/env/swmp/tires/tirefinassistance.htm.

Written requests for applications can also be mailed to: MDNR SWMP, Attention Dan Fester, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102 or faxed to 573-526-3902.
