Christina Shorter went off for 21 points, and Exeter High graduate Whitney Edie recorded another double-double as the Missouri State Lady Bears staged a furious rally to reach overtime and then defeat Oral Roberts University 73-72 on Nov. 29.
The Missouri State comeback overshadowed a 40-point night by ORU's Kevi Luper, a record performance for JQH Arena.
Although the Lady Bears led early, Oral Roberts used a 7-0 run to take a 30-29 halftime lead. The Lady Golden Eagles took advantage of MSU turnovers at the start of the second half to build a 40-29 lead with 16:54 to play.
The Lady Bears still trailed by 5 with less than a minute to play when Mt Vernon product Kenzie Williams nailed a trey to cut the lead to 65-63. Shorter then blocked a shot that led to a tying layup in the lane by Edie.
In the overtime period, Edie scored twice to give Missouri State the lead, and Williams rolled to a layup for the game winner. The Lady Bears improved to 4-2 with the win.
Edie finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
