The Southwest Trojans basketball team went 1-2 at the Strafford Tournament, bookending their victory over Springfield Catholic with losses to Ash Grove and Conway.
Southwest dropped the tournament opener to Ash Grove 80-75 on Nov. 27.
The Trojans trailed 42-29 at halftime before staging a too late comeback. Southwest absorbed a 5-point loss despite hitting seven treys and scoring 29 points in the final quarter.
"We saw some good things, and we saw some things that weren't so good," said Southwest's Jess Ross. "We didn't play well defensively."
James Pettit led the Trojans with 28 points. Drew Farrar and Jordan Epling scored 14 each.
The pattern continued against Springfield Catholic on Friday night. The Irish climbed to a 48-40 lead after three periods, but this time Southwest's late-game heroics were enough to claim a 61-58 victory.
Epling led the Trojans with 24 points, and Pettit added 19 to help secure the win.
Against Conway on Saturday, Southwest dropped a 67-65 heartbreaker. The Trojans trailed by only a point at halftime, 32-31, but the Bears pushed to a 48-44 lead at the final break before holding on for the 2-point victory.
Next up for the Trojans is a home game against McAuley on Friday night.
