Gift giving efforts underway

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Barry County community members are invited to help make Christmas bright for area needy children by donating to this year's Share Your Christmas and Angel Tree efforts.

Barry County OACAC Neighborhood Center staff members have been distributing Share Your Christmas ornaments to local businesses. Community members interested in purchasing toys for this year's effort should select an ornament from a Share Your Christmas tree or visit the Neighborhood Center to adopt a child or family.

Unwrapped presents and monetary donations will be accepted at the Neighborhood Center, located on Highway 248 in Cassville, until gift bags are packed on Dec. 13. Gifts will be distributed to families on Dec. 14.

Angel Tree

The Barry County Sheriff's Office will once again collect gifts for needy children through its Angel Tree effort this year.

Community members and businesses are invited to adopt a child or a family through the Angel Tree effort. Donors can select a name from the Angel Tree at the sheriff's office. Children participating in this year's Angel Tree range in age from newborn to 12.

Once a name is selected, the donor can choose to buy the gift themselves or make a monetary contribution for the gift. Guidelines for gifts will be given to community members when they select a name from the Angel Tree.

Community members can also donate toys and money at the sheriff's office without selecting a name from the tree. Gifts and donations must be submitted at the sheriff's office by Dec. 15.

The sheriff's office is also holding a drawing for a handmade cedar chest. Tickets are $1 each. All proceeds will benefit the Angel Tree effort.

For more information, call the Barry County Sheriff's Office at 847-6556.
