Here comes Santa Claus

Area communities will kick off the holiday season with festive parades in less than two weeks. The Cassville and Exeter Christmas parades will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, and the Washburn, Seligman and Wheaton Christmas parades have been set for Saturday, Dec. 8.

Exeter Christmas Parade

The City of Exeter will hold its annual parade at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in participating in the parade are invited to call the Exeter City Hall at 835-2823. Entry is free.

Santa Claus will distribute bags of goodies at the Exeter Community Building after the parade. All area children are invited to attend.

Cassville Christmas Parade

Cassville's annual nighttime Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1. The parade is sponsored by the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Prizes will be awarded in religious, non-religious, commercial, horse-drawn and marching band divisions. Special awards will also be presented for single unit vehicles.

Parade entries will begin lining up at the Cassville High School parking lot at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1. Each entry will be allowed no more than three minutes in front of the judges.

There is no fee to enter the parade. Entry forms must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Washburn Christmas Parade

The Washburn Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the sixth annual Washburn Christmas Parade at 11 a.m. on Dec. 8.

The top entries in the religious floats, non-religious floats, commercial floats and horse categories will receive a $50 cash prize. Second place in each category will earn $25, and $10 will be awarded to third place entries.

Trophies will be given to the first and second place marching bands and flag corps. The best decorated vehicle, oldest vehicle and most unusual vehicle will also be awarded trophies.

Parade registration forms can be obtained at the Washburn City Hall. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 7.

Seligman Christmas Parade

The 2012 Seligman Christmas Parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8. Parade placement will be first-come, first-served, and line-up will begin at 1 p.m.

The parade will begin at the north end of Seligman at the corner of Highway 37 and Business 37. Entries will travel south to the Seligman Community Center at the corner of South Main and Hurd Street.

The following cash prizes will be awarded in the religious float, non-religious float and marching unit divisions: $75, first place; $50, second place; and $25, third place.

The best animal unit, best antique vehicle, best non-antique vehicle and best motorcycle or off-road vehicle, including tractors, four-wheelers, carts and bicycles, will earn $40.

Judging numbers will be distributed to entries before they reach the judging stand. No loud entries will be placed near the band in the line-up. Horses will be placed at the very end of the line-up. Only one Santa will be allowed in the parade.

After the parade, Santa Claus will be at the community center to greet children and hand out treats. Refreshments will be offered for all attendees.

Wheaton Christmas Parade

The City of Wheaton's annual nighttime Christmas Parade will be held on Main Street in Wheaton beginning at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8.

Children will have the opportunity to get their photos taken with Santa and receive a treat bag before the parade, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place entries in several categories. The parade will begin at Body of Christ Outreach Ministries, which was formerly known as Gizmo's Event Center.

Free hot dogs, chili, hot chocolate and cookies will be offered in the Wheaton City Park after the parade.
