Large to step down as Cassville football coach
Cassville Wildcat football will be under new leadership for the 2013-14 season.
Head coach David Large has decided to step down as head coach for personal and family reasons.
"I would like to take this time to inform our Wildcat community that I have turned in my resignation as the head football coach of Cassville High School," said Large. "I met with the team today and informed them of my decision.
"My oldest daughter will be a freshman next fall and will be playing softball," continued Large. "The softball season is played at the same time as football, so this is going to cause a conflict for me as a head football coach. I have always told the players that God, family and academics came, before football and I believe this statement to be very true. I do not want to take away from the football vision and expectations we have built, so I have decided to make the decision to step aside."
Large compiled a 104-27 record in his 11-year tenure at Cassville. The Wildcats also won two state titles and the last four Big 8 Conference titles.
"My future plans are to hopefully take on some new responsibilities here at Cassville School District and enjoy being a proud parent in the fall," said Large. "I have been very blessed in my 17 years as a coach. In the last 11 years at Cassville, we have accomplished far more than one could ever imagine.
"We had a simple goal of trying to make our program into one of the best programs in the state," continued Large. "A very supportive school administration and community has helped us to achieve that and much more over the last several years. I can't thank the school and community enough for all of the support they have given us over this time. I also hope our Wildcat supporters will be just as supportive for the new head coach."
Cassville Athletic Director Coy Dalton stated that Large's decision was announced early enough that developing a transition plan for the new head coach would occur prior to the winter conditioning start in January.
"David has developed a great coaching staff and worked with me to evaluate the head coach position and develop a transition plan that will be good for the Cassville R-IV School District and football program," said Dalton. "The administration will work with the board of education and present recommendations in selecting David's successor. The administration is supportive of David's decision, and we look forward to our new head coach representing the reputation that the Wildcats have in the conference and state."
