Lewis C. Correll, 88, of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, Cassville.
He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Hickory, N.C., the son of Rev. Andrew Correll and Hattie (Jonas) Correll. On May 2, 1946, in North Carolina, he was united in marriage to Frankie Houston, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gary Correll, of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, Ethel Dean, of Cambridge, Md.; and two grandsons.
Preceding him in death were his parents, eight brothers and four sisters.
He grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Hickory High School. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving from April 14, 1943, until Nov. 10, 1945. For 20 months, he was in the war zone, serving on the USS Fair DE-35 as a second class petty officer radioman. After the Navy, he attended college and received his degree in accounting. For 35 years, he was an accountant for Northern Natural Gas in Kansas. In 1981, he retired and moved from Kansas to Cassville, where he enjoyed playing golf, gardening and watching sports, especially baseball. He was a member of Shell Knob United Methodist Church.
Graveside services with military honors were held Friday at Lake Park Memorial Gardens, Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Barry Fielder conducted the services.
