Register now for turkey trots

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Area residents still have time to register for local 5K runs to be held on Thanksgiving Day in Pierce City and Monett.

The second annual Pilgrims' Run in Pierce City will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 22. The event, which benefits the local Food for Thought backpack program, is sponsored by the Decatur Lodge #400. In addition to the 5K run, area residents can also participate in a one-mile walk.

The race fee is $25 for adults and $15 for children.

Registration will be accepted until the day of the race, and forms are available at the Monett YMCA and the Pierce City Hall or by calling Larry Eden at 417-476-3016 or Sallie Pryor at 417-669-8481.

Monett Turkey Trot

For the second year, Monett First United Methodist Church will host a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day. The 5K run and one-mile fun run or walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., and a free breakfast, served by volunteers with the Monett Community Kitchen, will be provided post-race to all participants on the morning of the race.

Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will be divided between Crosslines and the Monett Community Kitchen.

The 5K race fee is $20 for adults and $45 for families. The fee to participate in the one-mile run is $10 per person or $25 per family.

Registration forms are available at Monett First United Methodist Church at 1600 N. Central. For more information, contact Charlene Dart at 417-235-7444 or cdart@sofnet.com.

Those who register for both the Pierce City Pilgrims' Run and the Monett Turkey Trot, will receive a $5 discount on each run.
